Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Candon City, Ilocos Sur

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook Candon City in Ilocos Sur on Thursday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers, occurred at 2:08 p.m. Its epicenter was traced to 63 kilometers northwest of Candon City.

The earthquake was initially reported at 5.3 magnitude and revised to 5.1 in an advisory posted at 10:58 p.m.

Intensity IV was felt in the following areas: Candon City and San Esteban, Ilocos Sur.

Intensity III in Santa Maria, Bantay, Magsingal, Banayoyo and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; Pinili, Ilocos Norte; Sudipen and Bangar, La Union; Bolinao and Alaminos City, Pangasinan.

Intensity II in San Juan, Galimuyod, Tagudin, Cabugao, San Ildefonso, Sto. DomingoNarvacan, Caoayan, Santa Catalina, Santiago, San Vicente, Sinait, Santa Cruz and Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur; Bacarra, Ilocos Norte; San Juan, Bacnotan, Balaoan, and Luna, La Union; Bangued, San Quintin, and Peñarrubia, Abra.

The quake was felt at Intensity I in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Baguio City; Itogon, Benguet.
