Baguio reopens to tourists after Abra quake

Baguio City reopened to tourists on Thursday, a day after the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Abra.

According to Jasmin Gabriel-Galvan’s report on “24 Oras,” the city engineering office assessed that all public parks and tourist destinations in the country’s Summer Capital remain safe for both residents and visitors.

“After being declared safe, ‘yun lang mga private tourist spot ang nire-request for inspection,” Baguio City Information Officer Aileen Refuerzo said.

Based on the monitoring of the city government, tourist arrivals has remained high since yesterday. It also said it will not implement any changes to its tourism policies.

Further, the local government opened Kennon Road to motorists, but advised them to exercise utmost caution.

“Sa Kennon Road kasi, although open na sya, not advisable na daanan kasi hindi natin alam, di ba? Kasi umulan kagabi. We don't know baka may mga hanging na rocks dyan,” Silver Pilo, Benguet DRM Office Information Officer, said.
