Heavy rains affect Kalinga water source, cause landslides in Ifugao

Heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) have flooded a natural spring in Kalinga and caused landslides in Ifugao.

The flood has affected the main source of clean water for three barangays in Lubo, Tanudan, Kalinga, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

The polyvinyl chloride pipes that deliver water from the spring to the community were damaged.

Other sources of clean water were also damaged by the flood.

The local government unit is thus planning to place three barangays in Lubo under a state of calamity.

Ifugao

Meanwhile, heavy rains also caused landslides in Lagawe, Ifugao.

Natuwolan Road, which connects Ifugao to Banawe, was rendered impassable due to the landslide and mud.

Some roads in Aguinaldo town were also obstructed by landslides and fallen trees.

Motorists were advised to use alternate routes.

Authorities are conducting clearing operations to make the roads passable.

The Southwest Monsoon continues to affect the country on Monday and is expected to bring rain showers over throughout the country, PAGASA said. — Alzel Laguardia/KG, GMA News
