54-year-old cabbie bumps policeman's car, allegedly gets beaten up

A 54-year-old taxi driver suffered injuries after he was allegedly beaten up by a policeman in Bacolod City.

The victim was identified as Roque Tome Jr., a resident of Murcia, Negros Occidental, according to Police Major Joery Puerto, commander of Police Station 8 Bacolod City.

Puerto said the incident happened on August 10 after Tome hit the vehicle of the policeman on Araneta Street in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

“Itong taxi driver nagmaniobra. Tapos nasagi niya ang sasakyan [ng pulis] at medyo may slightly damage ang sasakyan,” Puerto told GMA News Online.

(The taxi driver was maneuvering when he hit police's vehicle. The vehicle was slightly damaged.)

“Bumaba ang taxi driver at hihingi sana ng areglo o pasensiya sa may-ari ng sasakyan na nasagi niya… Hindi niya alam na pulis at ang sinabi sinaktan daw siya,” he added.

(He then went out of his taxi and was about to ask for an arrangement or an apology from the owner of the car he hit... He did not know the other person was a policeman and he said he was assaulted.)

Puerto told the victim to file an administrative complaint before the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police. —NB/KG, GMA News
