Cop killed, minor injured in Negros Oriental ambush

A policeman was killed while a minor was injured in an attack by unidentified armed men in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, according to Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7).

The police identified the fatality as Police Corporal Rey Agustillo Ambo, 37, of the 705th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 based in Sta. Catalina town.

Investigations showed that on August 15, Ambo and his colleague were in the city to gather information on the reported presence of the communist terrorist group in Barangay San Roque when unidentified persons fired at them using KG-9 9mm caliber firearm.

The victim reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds while his colleague was unharmed.

Meanwhile, a minor who was in the area sustained gunshot wounds and was brought to Bayawan District Hospital for immediate medical treatment, the police said.

In a statement, PRO-7 director Police Brigadier General Roque Eduardo DP Vega condemned the killing of Ambo.

“PRO-7 strongly condemns this blatant act of violence to one of our gallant policemen in service. We are sending our prayers and condolences to the bereaved family and assure them that justice will be served,” De Vega said.

He also ordered the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office to conduct a manhunt operation for the arrest of the perpetrators.—Mel Matthew Doctor/AOL, GMA News
