1-year-old needs surgery after being physically abused by father

A one-year-old child in Compostela, Cebu, needs surgery after his father physically abused him.

According to Nikko Sereno's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, the suspect blamed drugs and alcohol for his actions, which apparently included striking the baby and throwing him.

"Wala ako sa sarili, sir. Impluwensya nga ng droga sir," said the suspect.

According to the child's carer, the baby seems to be better now as he is now able to nurse and cry. The carer added that the child cries when his body is touched.

The baby is currently confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and needs to undergo surgery. However, his guardian said they do not have enough money to pay the hospital bills, so they are asking for help.

The suspect is now in police custody and is facing charges of frustrated parricide. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA News
