Calabarzon (Region 4-A) has recorded at least three fatalities, and evacuated more than 80,000 residents during the onslaught of severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

GMA News’ Sandra Aguinaldo reported Sunday that two people died in Noveleta, Cavite.

According to Noveleta Mayor Dino Reyes Chua, of the two fatalities in the municipality one died of heart attack, and the other slipped and suffered fatal head injury.

Meanwhile, in a Super Radyo dzBB interview, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said that a third fatality was due to electrocution.

At least 10,101 Cavite residents (2,959 families) were also preemptively evacuated in preparation for Storm Paeng's onslaught, which left 33 areas in Noveleta, Imus, Kawit, Bacoor, and Rosario flooded.

“Na-evacuate lahat. Maraming na-evacuate pero nagbalikan na lahat,” Remulla said.

(Everyone was evacuated. Many were evacuated, but everyone has returned to their homes for now.)

He added that floods in the province have started to subside, thus relief good distribution will begin within the day.

In Laguna, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO) Aldrin Cejo said that around 27,000 individuals or 7,000 families were evacuated.

There were no reports on casualties in the province yet.

Cejo said that 30 people were rescued in Calauan, Victoria, and Bay throughout the onslaught of Paeng on Saturday. Another 50 people were rescued in several areas in the first district of Laguna.

“Sa ngayon ho, base sa monitoring namin, bumababa na rin naman ang lebel ng baha dito sa lalawigan. Sa iba’t ibang munisipyo namin ay nagkakaron na ho ng magandang daloy ng trapiko,” he said in a separate dzBB interview.

(Right now, based on our monitoring, the floods in the province are subsiding. Vehicular traffic flow is already good in several areas.)

Meanwhile, in Quezon province, Governor Helen Tan said that 47,000 individuals or 14,000 families were staying in evacuation centers.

There were also no casualties reported so far, according to her.

“Maraming iniwan na damage ang bagyong Paeng. Ang kabuuan ng aming lalawigan ay naapektuhan nitong bagyong ito. Sa pangkasalukuyan, mayroon pa rin po tayong mga hindi passable na daan o lansangan,” she said in another dzBB interview.

(Paeng destroyed several infrastructure facilities in Quezon. The whole of our province was affected by this typhoon. Currently, we still have impassable roads or streets.)

She said that the Bantilan Bridge collapsed on Saturday night, while the roads going to Real, Infanta, and Nakar were impassable due to landslides. Several areas in the province also experienced flooding.

Tan reported that more than 50% of Quezon were also suffering from power outages. —LBG, GMA News
