3 dead, 2 missing reported in Batangas due to Paeng —PDRRMO

The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has recorded three dead and two missing persons due to Typhoon Paeng.

At a public briefing, Batangas PDRRMO chief Lito Castro said a child in San Juan died after a tree fell while two died in Talisay due to rain-induced landslide.

Two persons were also reported missing in Lobo, Batangas.

Castro said 2,793 families or 10,956 individuals were in evacuation areas in Batangas.

Meanwhile, 686 families or 2,791 individuals stayed with their relatives during the onslaught of Typhoon Paeng, the PDRRMO chief said.

The Batangas provincial government as well as the local government units have already distributed relief goods in Lian, Nasugbu, San Juan, and Batangas City.

Castro said aid was also extended to patients who are currently staying at San Juan Gymnasium after they were evacuated from San Juan District Hospital.

The Batangas PDRRMO likewise distributed relief goods and offered evacuation areas and transportation to stranded passengers.

With the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Castro said stranded passengers also received cash assistance on top of their basic needs such as food and medicine.

Castro said a partial report showed that there was at least P2 million worth of agricultural damage due to Typhoon Paeng. They are expecting a partial report on infrastructure damage within the day.

On Sunday, Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonooan said that the Bantilan Bridge in Quezon Province was totally washed out due to debris from big tree logs.

The bridge, which is 30 meters long, is located between Barangay Tipas in San Juan, Batangas and Barangay Bantilan in Sariaya, Quezon.

Castro said Batangas province is "going back to normal" after they conducted a damage assessment in various municipalities on Sunday.

He said based on their assessment, the municipality of San Juan suffered the most as Typhoon Paeng made a landfall in the area.

"Sa ngayon naman po nag-subside na ang mga tubig at unti-unti po ay naibabalik na sa normal 'yun pong dadaanan maliban na lamang po doon sa kalakasan ng hangin at tubig ulan ay may mga natumbang puno pero sa pamamagitan po ng pakikipagtulungan ng ating mga LGUs at ng DPWH as well as 'yung ating provincial engineering ay naisaayos naman po 'yung mga daanan," he said.—AOL, GMA News
