Sellers of counterfeit clothing nabbed in Taytay

By GMA Integrated News

Some P350,000 worth of counterfeit clothing were seized in an operation in Rizal province in the past week, following complaints of a local clothing brand that its products were being faked.

The goods were seized from a stall in Taytay, Rizal, last Thursday, November 24, where sellers were nabbed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The stall was reported to have been under the monitoring of the authorities for quite some time, given the complaints forwarded by a local clothing firm.

“So medyo matagal, mahirap ipakilala ‘yung brand sa market and then gagayahin lang ng iba, and the products that are sold ng iba are low quality compared to the original,” lawyer Erol Ecalnir, legal counsel of the clothing brand, said in a report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

(It takes quite a time and effort to introduce the brand to the market and others just copy, and the products sold by others are low quality compared to the original.)

“So it really affects financially and, of course, the quality and the good will, of course, of the company,” he added.

For its part, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said consumers can forward their complaints and concerns to the agency through its social media pages or official hotlines. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
