Silang mayor to help in addressing CALAX right-of-way woes

By TED CORDERO,GMA Integrated News

The local chief executive of Silang town in Cavite has vowed to intervene in resolving the right-of-way issues which were blamed for the delay in the completion of a segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

"We are very willing to help MPCALA and the national government to fast track the opening of the CALAX Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange. Right now, we are planning to set up a meeting with the owner of the land to discuss the right-of-way issues. Maybe, we can get a compromise agreement before the end of the year," Silang Mayor Kevin Anarna said in a statement.

CALAX operator and developer MPCALA Holdings Inc. earlier said the completion of the subsection of the toll road linking it to Silang, Cavite has been delayed due to right-of-way issues

with the target date being moved several times, with the latest being December of 2022 again uncertain.

To date, the subsection of the CALAX is 64% completed.

"Our sceneries are beautiful, and also the tourist attractions. Because that portion is unfinished yet due to right of way concerns, they are not being developed and visited well," he added.

The delay in completion of the CALAX subsection, the Silang mayor said, hampered the development of inner roads of the municipality.

"Once the CALAX Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange is completed, we can now start the construction of inner roads so that we will be accessible to local tourists and investors who want to invest in Silang," Anarna said.

The Silang subsection of CALAX is the fifth of the eight segments of the 45-kilometer (km) toll road.

The segment spans at 3.9 kilometers with 2x2 lane expressway from Silang East Interchange to Aguinaldo Highway in Cavite.

Upon completion, the subsection will serve more motorists given the reduced traffic situation. Current average daily traffic is 33,000 from Mamplasan to Silang East interchange. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
