Soldier hurt in clash with alleged NPA members in Quezon

A soldier was injured after an encounter with alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members in San Andres, Quezon on Friday.

According to Peewee Bacuño’s report on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday, the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion was still conducting clearing operations in the area of the encounter.

GMA News tried to enter the area to check on the evacuated residents, however, the Philippine Army did not allow it due to possible landmines left by the NPA.

The injured soldier was brought to the hospital in Lucena City, Quezon.

Meanwhile, explosive materials and documents were found in the places where the rebel group had passed.

According to the Philippine Army, the rebels hid for several months in Camarines Norte until they returned to Quezon province to cause trouble.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Colonel Medel Aguilar also confirmed that the encounter happened in Barangay Pansoy, San Andres, Quezon on Friday afternoon.

“We expect our field units to provide the details of the incident soon,” he told GMA News Online on Saturday. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
