DENR orders filing of complaint vs. mining firm for violations

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ordered the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) to file a complaint against Altai Philippines Mining Corporation (APMC) due to several alleged violations in the company’s operations in Romblon’s Sibuyan Island.

This was after the reported cutting of trees without permit based on the joint order released by the department, according to the “24 Oras” report on Wednesday.

The department said an investigation is also being conducted on the alleged damage to sea grass and other marine resources as a result of the construction of the causeway project.

The DENR also temporarily suspended the company's construction and operation of its causeway in Sitio Bato, Brgy. España, San Fernando, Romblon.

Last February 1, the DENR Environmental Management Bureau in Mimaropa issued several notices of violation against the company. —Richa Noriega/NB, GMA Integrated News
