PCG: 23 crew members rescued after cargo vessel capsizes off Surigao del Norte

Twenty-three crew members were rescued after their cargo vessel capsized in the waters between Hinatuan Island and Bucas Grande Island in Surigao del Norte on Friday due to strong winds and big waves.

In a statement, the PCG said the LCT Pacifica, which was heading to Dapa Port, encountered big waves up to three meters high that entered the engine room, resulting in engine trouble and steering problem.

MV Veronica sighted the capsized cargo vessel and immediately rescued the 23 crew members.

The master of the cargo vessel received medical attention, while the rest of the crew members were in good physical condition, the PCG said.

According to the PCG, it is still assessing the concerned vicinity waters to check if there is an oil spill. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
