Suspected Abu Sayyaf member killed in Sulu clash

A suspected Abu Sayyaf member was killed while two government security troops were wounded following an encounter in Patikul, Sulu on Monday, the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command said.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Westmincom said the clash occurred in Barangay Kabbon Takas when operating troops from the 111th Division Reconnaissance Company and 32nd Infantry Battalion engaged the group headed by Mudzrimar Sawadjaan alias Mundi.  

The government troops recovered the body of Rhudymat Habib Jihiran alias Gulam. Also recovered were an M14 rifle, a bandoleer with seven loaded magazines, an analog phone and three backpacks.

the remains of Jihiran was turned over to the PNP-SOCO for legal requirements and proper dispositio, the statement said.

The Westmincom said the wounded soldiers were in stable condition and recuperating at a military hospital in Sulu. 

Westmincon chief, Lieutenant General Roy Galido, said operations against the Abu Sayyaf will be intensified “in adherence to the International Humanitarian Law and other laws promulgated to ensure the safety of the communities.” — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
