PCG rescues 8 stranded tourists in Badoc Island

Eight tourists who were stranded on Badoc Island in Ilocos Norte were rescued by members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

In a statement released Wednesday, the coast guard personnel said they recovered the distressed tourists early Tuesday after they got stuck on the island over the weekend.

An initial investigation showed the victims rented two motorbancas to reach Badoc Island and have a picnic on Sunday, February 12 but were not able to go home due to the bad weather.

The local government of Barangay Pagsanahan Sur coordinated with the PCG but the search and rescue operations were deferred due to the sea and weather hazards.

The PCG rescued them at around 5 a.m. with the assistance of four fisherfolk aboard two motorbancas. They were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for a medical checkup and documentation. —Sundy Locus/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
