5.3-magnitude quake jolts Davao de Oro
By GMA Integrated NewsA magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit southeast of New Bataan, Davao de Oro early Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The PHIVOLCS earlier reported a 5.2-magnitude quake occurred in the area.
The quake, which occurred at 4:43 a.m., was four kilometer deep and tectonic in origin.
The earthquake was also felt in the following areas:
- Intensity IV - Compostela, Mabini, Maco, Maragusan, Mawab, Monkayo, and New Bataan, Davao de Oro; Asuncion, New Corella, City of Tagum, and Talaingod, Davao del Norte; Santa Josefa and Trento, Agusan del Sur
- Intensity III - Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, and Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte; Caraga, Cateel, Lupon, and City of Mati, Davao Oriental; Lingig, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity II - Laak, Davao de Oro; City of Davao; Matalam, Cotabato
- Intensity I - Magpet, Cotabato; City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur

Damage and aftershocks are expected, the agency also reported. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
