54 schools in Davao Region damaged by magnitude 5.9 quake — DepEd


At least 54 schools in Davao Region were reportedly damaged after the magnitude 5.9 earthquake on Tuesday, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

Based on their initial assessment, the DepEd said on Wednesday that their regional office recorded damaged schools in the following areas:

  • Davao del Norte: 18
  • Panabo City: 24
  • Davao de Oro: 3
  • Davao Oriental: 3
  • Tagum City: 3
  • Island Garden City of Samal: 3

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said on Tuesday that the earthquake struck Davao de Oro at 2:02 p.m.

Its epicenter was located eight kilometers southeast of New Bataan town.

The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

It was felt at the following intensities:

  • Intensity V - Maco, Maragusan, Nabunturan, New Bataan, and Pantukan, Davao de Oro
  • Intensity IV - Monkayo, Davao de Oro; City of Tagum, Davao del Norte; City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur
  • Intensity III - Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; City of Davao; City of Mati, Davao Oriental
  • Intensity II - City of Cagayan De Oro; Antipas, Carmen, and City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat
  • Intensity I - Aleosan, Cotabato; Esperanza, Lutayan, and President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat
