Malacañang has declared March 16, 2023 as a special non-working day in the province of Negros Oriental to allow the community to grieve and honor the memory of slain Governor Roel Degamo.

In Proclamation No. 185 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, by authority of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., it was indicated that it is only fitting to give the people of Negros Oriental the opportunity to show respect and join the interment of Degamo.

Degamo and five others were killed while 13 others were injured in the March 4 attack conducted while the governor was distributing aid to his constituents at his residence in Pamplona town. The death then increased to nine on March 5.
