Raps filed vs. 7 suspects in alleged hazing death of Cebu student

A complaint for homicide and violation of the Anti-Hazing Act was filed against the seven suspects in the death of University of Cebu student Ronnel Baguio in December 2022.

The Public Attorney’s Office Region 7 declined to identify the respondents as the preliminary investigation is underway, according to a "24 Oras Weekend" report on Saturday.

Police said they have strong evidence against the suspects, which also includes a teacher.

Baguio passed away a few days after undergoing the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity in Cebu City.

Based on his death certificate, he succumbed to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to indirect lung injury and acute kidney injury secondary to rhabdomyolysis.

Baguio's mother expressed hope that they would get justice for her son's death.

On March 4, the PAO and the National Bureau of Investigation-Region 7 launched a joint investigation into Baguio’s death following a directive from Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla. — Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
