Imee Marcos to push for funds to retrofit Magat Dam

Senator Imee Marcos vowed on Saturday to push for funds to retrofit the Magat Dam in Isabela to support irrigation expansion in the area.

Marcos made the pledge at a stakeholders’ forum on the Magat River Integrated Irrigation System in Santiago City, Isabela, according to the Philippine Information Agency.

Jointly financed by the Philippine government and the World Bank, the dam’s construction was completed in 1982. It started operations the following year.

According to the National Irrigation Administration, the forum was conducted to strengthen the linkages and partnership of the agency with farmers by promoting transparency in irrigation development and the implementation of NIA’s irrigation projects.

"Also, this forum aims to discuss the convergence programs of different government agencies for the farmer-irrigators, particularly on their plans and activities on hunger mitigation, food and nutrition security, poverty alleviation, and wealth creation," the NIA said. —Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
