Bailiwick breakdown: Poe poaches votes from others' turf
If electoral history is any indication, it rings true for many politicians that home is where the votes are.
In the recent midterm elections, most senatorial candidates with known bailiwicks were not let down, securing the number one spot in their main areas of influence.
But there are those like Senator-elect Grace Poe, who surprised even herself by her meteoric rise to the top of the polls, even without a turf to call her own. The former chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board handily won the elections by topping the rankings in nine of the country's 16 regions.
Overall, Team PNoy (the coalition that Poe ran under) also got more slots in the Top 12, whether you're looking at bailiwicks (including those of UNA candidates) or regions. The administration's coalition is headed by President Noynoy Aquino – himself a landslide winner in 2010.
