Cebu City overtakes QC in number of COVID-19 cases


Cebu City now has the highest number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country after the City Health Department (CHD) reported 97 new infections as of Sunday night, bringing the total to 1,571.

Quezon City, on the other hand, logged 1,524 cases with 133 deaths and 348 recoveries as of Saturday night.

The areas with the highest number of cases in Cebu City were Mambaling with 600, Cebu City Jail with 332, Barrio Luz with 194, Suba with 130, and Labangon with 127.

 

Meanwhile, a total of nine patients have succumbed to the respiratory illness in the city.

“Contact tracing team will further verify and assess these identified patients. Close monitoring will be done and proper referral will be rendered,” the CHD said on Facebook.

The health authorities added that over 1,168 residents were swabbed in Mambaling.

In the Cebu City Jail, 878 were swabbed, more than 500 of whom tested negative.

In Lahug, 334 were swabbed with 233 testing negative.

In Tejero, 77 were swabbed but 63 were negative.
