Japan says coronavirus border controls in place, would add 18 countries to entry ban
TOKYO - The Japanese government said existing border restrictions would remain in place except in cases involving humanitarian reasons.
The country said it would add 18 countries to its entry ban from July 1, according to a June 29 posting on the foreign ministry website.
That brings the total number of countries subject to Japan's entry ban to 129.
The 18 countries to be added to the entry ban starting July 1, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website are:
- Algeria
- Cameroon
- Central Africa
- Costa Rica
- Cuba
- Eswatini
- Georgia
- Grenada
- Guatemala
- Guyana
- Haiti
- Iraq
- Jamaica
- Lebanon
- Mauritania
- Nicaragua
- Senegal
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Japan previously suspended visas issued to the Philippines and 10 other countries in Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa due to the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019.
In March, it also expanded its entry ban to included citizens traveling from the United States, China, South Korea and most of Europe. —Reuters/KG, GMA News
