Pope Leo temporarily confirms Vatican heads, including Tagle, in current roles

VATICAN CITY - Pope Leo has confirmed all top Vatican officials in their current roles on a temporary basis, giving him time to decide before making definitive appointments, the Vatican said in a statement on Friday.

All Vatican senior officials, appointed for five-year terms, serve at the pleasure of the pope. A new pontiff usually rolls over existing mandates, at least initially, before deciding whether to change key positions.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) News reported that the new pope is keeping Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, and other heads of dicasteries in their posts "provisionally."

"The Holy Father wishes, in fact, to reserve a certain amount of time for reflection, prayer and dialogue, before any definitive nomination or confirmation," according to the Holy See Press Office. — Reuters with BAP, GMA Integrated News
