TUESDAY DAVAO ORIENTAL LANDFALL EXPECTED

TD Chedeng slows, maintains its strength; 8 areas under Signal 1


Tropical Depression Chedeng slowed slightly even as maintained its strength, weather service PAGASA reported in a 5 a.m. bulletin.

At 4 a.m., Chedeng was 650 kilometers east of Davao City, with 45 kilometer per hour winds and gusts of up to 60 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was raised over:

  • Davao Oriental,
  • Compostela Valley,
  • Davao del Sur,
  • Davao City,
  • Davao Occidental,
  • the southern part of Davao del Norte including Samal Island,
  • the eastern part of North Cotabato, and
  • the eastern part of Sarangani.

Scattered to at times widespread moderate to heavy rain could thus be expected over Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, the Compostela Valley, and Davao del Norte on Monday, with these conditions expected over most of Mindanao by Tuesday.

Small seacraft were also advised not to venture over the eastern seaboards of the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as over the seaboards of areas under Signal 1.

With Chedeng moving west at 15 kph, the tropical depression was expected to make landfall over the eastern coast of Davao Oriental by Tuesday morning.

By Wednesday morning, Chedeng would likely be 15 kms southwest of Zamboanga City. — DVM, GMA News
