Summer flings, yay or nay? Papa Kiko and Chikotita give their say

Radio personalities now have an all-encompassing presence on air. They not only play your favorite songs. Nowadays, you can ring them and ask advice for all your existential questions in life.

Barangay LS 97.1 DJs Papa Kiko and Chikotita have been around for quite some time. They are no strangers to strange questions, especially love-related ones.

Now that summer has come around, everything is just more sizzling and temptations loom in every corner. It’s the time of the year when the temperature rises for wild pursuits such as summer flings. Are they worth the thrill?

Papa Kiko says that summer flings have been around for ages. In this social media age where everything has a tag, “summer fling” has become the definitive label for a summer-long, non-commital “relationship”.

For him, summer flings are okay as long as you know your limitations.

Kung gusto mo talaga, be careful. I-enjoy mo lang, pero marami pang bagay na puwedeng gawin besides that,” he adds, suggesting new summer sports or activities.

Chikotita also gives a word of advice to the youth who usually engage in this kind of set-up.

Summer flings are undoubtedly fun, but in the heat of summer and emotions, both parties should know that if it sizzles, it will fizzle. Expectations should not exist as they could lead to attachment, which is a very dangerous thing. Remember that the goal is to enjoy and not hurt each other.

Chikotita advises,“Ang importante, basta bata pa kayo, mag-aral kayo.

Life is filled with bountiful possibilities that go beyond summer flings. The transitory, momentary happiness that summer flings give may be the stuff that good memories are made of. Treasure these memories, but value the more important things in life, like your goals. There is no hard and fast rule for happiness. The challenge is to go out there, face the world and get it.
