Young sensation Darren Espanto, dubbed the ‘Total Peformer,’ had a blast guesting on Mama Belle’s radio show 'Sikat Sa Barangay' earlier today, February 24.
 
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, the Calgary-born Pinoy singer admitted being called a ‘Total Performer’ surprised him since he is as a newbie in the industry.
 
Darren said, “Nagulat na lang po ako sinabi po ‘yun ng host na may title na ho ako, tsaka masaya po ako kasi hindi po lahat nakakakuha ng nickname sa contest pa lang. 'Pag matagal-tagal na dun pa lang po  sila nakakakuha ng nickname so masayang-masaya po ako.”

How are you adjusting to your new life as a celebrity?
 
“Day by day naman po nakaka-adjust na po ako and I’m still getting used to it po. Tsaka hindi po ako makapaniwala na nangyayari na po talaga ‘to.”
 
What is your message to your fans who still strongly believes that you should have won?
 
“I’ve realized na hindi ko po kailangan manalo para ma-reach mo ‘yung mga pangarap mo.”
 
Since you grew up in Canada, what do you miss most about your birthplace?
 
“Isa po sa namiss ko dun sa Calgary po ‘yung ‘Stampede’ at ‘yung fiesta po dun. Tapos Calaway Park, parang maliit na Echanted Kingdom ng Calgary."
 
You're very fluent in Filipino. Did your parents encourage you  to practice speaking [the language]?
 
“Yes po. Pagkatapos ko ng school, kung nag-e-english pa rin ako, sasabihin nila: 'Darren mag-tagalog ka na.'”
 
Which among the songs in your debut album is your favorite?
 
“Siyempre po marami po akong favorite. Pero dalawa po [yung favorite ko]: ‘In Love Ako Sa 'Yo. Yun po ‘yung carrier single ko, tsaka ‘Stuck.’ 'Yun po ‘yung parang English version ng ‘In Love Ako Sa 'Yo na medyo acoustic naman po.”
 
Who are your musical inspiration?
 
“International po? Right now would have to be Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, tsaka Michael Jackson po”
 
Who among the OPM singers do you want to be your guest in a major concert?
 
“Actually po marami na po akong naka-duet sila Sir Martin, Si Ms. Lani [Misalucha], Sir. Gary [Valenciano] tsaka si Ms. Sarah [Geronimo] and sila Kuya Jed [Madela].
 
Darren added, “So, hindi po talaga ako makakapili kasi they have big names sila Ms. Regine [Velasquez-Alcasid] po nakasama ko na rin. Nandun na po sila sa taas, ako nagsisimula pa lang po so parang mas parang sila po ‘yung pipili sa amin na nagsisimula pa lang.”
