October 26 2026
Barangay LS 97.1 bagged the best FM Radio Station award at the 7th Alta Media Icon Awards held at the University of Perpetual System DALTA - Las Piñas Campus on October 22, 2026. The recognition highlights the station’s contribution to Philippine radio and its continued connection with listeners through music, entertainment, and engaging programs.
The ALTA Media Icon Awards is an annual, student-choice awards event organized by the Department of Communication and AB Communication students of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA’s Las Piñas campus. It recognizes media programs and personalities across various categories, with winners chosen by the university community or the Perpetualites.
In an interview, TJ Herrera, FM Manager for Operations, described the award as a rewarding recognition of the team’s years of hard work and dedication, adding that receiving the honor from the students and faculty of university made it even more meaningful as it reflected the station’s connection with the youth and the academic community.
Herrera described the award as “the ultimate validation of our team’s grit, consistency, and authenticity.” He said the recognition reflects the strategy and effort behind the station’s energetic on-air presence, as well as the distinct personality of the DJs. The award celebrates the station’s bond with its current community while welcoming new listeners, he added.
“This win doesn't just belong to the station, its hosts, or its personnel; it is for every single listener or Kabarangay who considers Barangay LS 97.1 their companion forever. We are a neighborhood, a barangay, where we treat everyone as relevant. So, while our audience continues listening to us, we will also listen to them, ensuring we always provide them with the experience they truly deserve.” he emphasized.
As Barangay LS 97.1 celebrates this milestone, the station remains committed to strengthening its bond with its Kabarangays and continuing to be their trusted companion, forever.
Meanwhile, Rowena Salvacion of Saksi sa Dobol B won the Best Female AM Radio Personality award at the same ceremony, adding to GMA Network’s accolades and recognizing the contributions of its radio personalities to Philippine broadcasting.
In her acceptance speech, Salvacion described the award as a validation of the everyday hard work and dedication of broadcasters.
“Hindi madali ang maging brodkaster. Kaakibat nito ay hindi lang daldal, kundi matinding responsibilidad. Lahat ng lumalabas sa bibig namin on air, sa telebisyon man o radyo, ay kailangang balitang totoo, balitang tama, at walang bahid ng fake news,” she said.
Salvacion also highlighted the role of academic institutions such as University of Perpetual Help DALTA in affirming the value of responsible journalism, emphasizing how recognition from the academe reflects students’ appreciation of the important role broadcasters play in delivering accurate and credible information to the public.
