For Princess Velasco, Christmas this year is filled with heart-warming moments and a few heartaches.

Christmas this year is going to be a totally different experience for Princess Velasco as she keeps old traditions, welcomes new blessings, and lets go of what she cannot control.

Aside from giving birth to a baby girl in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Princess does not sweat about staying indoors because she has always been celebrating Christmas day with her family at home. However, she admits there are a few practices this season that she will surely miss.

She told GMANetwork.com during a video conference with members of Kapuso Brigade, “The day after Christmas kasi birthday ko ‘yun eh, December 26. Usually lumalabas talaga kami. It’s either kakain kami sa restaurant, or ‘pag may budget mag-i-staycation kami, or kung mas may budget, mag-a-out-of-town kami kahit overnight lang. Siyempre ‘yun hindi na namin magagawa ngayon.

“And siguro ‘yung medyo nakakalungkot na hindi namin magagawa this Christmas na palagi naming ginagawa ng family ko, ‘yung family ng daddy ko and ng mga kuya ko is dumalaw at mag-mass sa puntod ng mommy ko.”

Princess revealed that her mom passed away on December 24, 2009, and it has been their tradition to celebrate Christmas Eve at the cemetery.

She said, “So every year, pag December 24 ng hapon, nagpupunta kami sa Manila Memorial Park tapos dinadalaw namin ‘yung puntod ni Mommy tapos nagma-mass kami doon kasama ‘yung priest ko na kaibigan. So ‘yun hindi namin magagawa this year talaga kasi bawal. ‘Yung dad ko kasi hindi na puwede lumabas ng bahay kasi naka-oxygen siya eh.”

She also couldn’t leave the house because she just welcomed her third child a few days ago.

She continued, explaining, “May baby na ako, kapapanganak ko lang din. So hindi ko puwedeng ilabas ‘yung baby. So I don’t know. Maybe I’ll ask na lang ‘yung panganay kong kuya na siya pumunta doon tapos mag-zoom nalang kami na get-together habang nandoon siya sa puntod ni mommy. I don’t know, I don’t know how we’re gonna do it.”

Despite not being able to pay respects to her mom this season, Princess will continue to preserve the joy and warmth the holiday brings. In fact, she looks forward to making new memories with her growing family despite the ongoing crisis.

She said, “Me and my husband siyempre, we’re gonna try to make this Christmas special for our kids, especially our two toddlers na may isip na. We’ll try to make new, simple traditions at home under this new normal setup that we have.”

Princess's faith about the Christmas season can also be heard in her latest single released under GMA Music, “The New Born King.”
