A policeman who got wounded when he responded to a robbery in Surigao City was conferred the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” for demonstrating bravery.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Caraga Commander, Brigadier General Kirby John Kraft, pinned the medal on Corporal Andres Felisco Jr., who is confined at the Regional Medical and Dental Unit 11, Camp Sgt. Quintin Merecido in Davao City.

Felisco also received financial aid from the regional headquarters.

“PCpl Felisco Jr.'s remarkable display of bravery in the face of immense danger, undeterred by the potential sacrifice of his own life in the line of duty, epitomizes an unwavering commitment to serve and safeguard the community,” Kraft said.

Felisco and other personnel of the Surigao City Police Station responded to a robbery incident at a cement company when around 15 suspects allegedly led by a certain “Taloy” opened fire.

Operatives retaliated, which resulted in an armed encounter.

Kraft said the perpetrators would have carted away around P1 million worth of items had the police arrived late.
