A shuttle service for students returning home late at night was deployed in Barangay Mabolo, Naga City, Camarines Sur.

The decision to field the shuttle came after the city recorded incidents of harassment, assault, accidents, among others, involving students.

Because of these concerns, parents are particularly worried about the safety of their children, especially those who travel at night.

Acknowledging these concerns, Barangay Mabolo decided to provide a shuttle for students commuting at night.

Aside from safety benefits, the initiative also aims to help students save on transportation costs.

"Marahay, dahil makakapagtipid na si mga magurang na nakakalibre sa pamasahe," Nida, a parent, said.

According to the barangay, the program prioritizes students who reside within their community.

"Pinaka-priority pong ma-avail kaini sim ga estudyante po na mga taga Mabolo talaga kasi duman palang po sa mga pick-up point na pigpupunduhan mi arug kan Liboton Annex, duman mismo kami sa tangod nagpupundo," Aikee Manansala, a barangay councilman, said.

Barangay Mabolo is also considering fielding a shuttle during the day but is also taking into consideration the possible impact it may have on the livelihood of tricycle and jeepney drivers.
