Work has begun to address a problem of drainage that residents of Purok 8 in Barangay Los Amigos, Davao City have since complained about.

The clogged canal in the area, a problem that reportedly existed for quite some time, has reportedly caused flooding during heavy rains. Floodwaters have reportedly entered houses. This prompted residents to bring the matter to the barangay council’s Committee on Environment.

“Kada ulan ako jud ang maapektohan diri. Musulod pajud diri. Bisan gabieng dako magsige gyud ko og panilhig uy kay daghan man jud kaayong tubig,” a resident, Edna Borres, said.

“Kanang paingon sa sulod, daghan man ang residente, ang ilang balay is dili makuan(humol) sa tubig pero ang agianan, ang basketballlan, didto namang ulan magtapok,” Purok Leader, Neneng Alipaopao, added.

The barangay committee has already asked the City Engineer’s Office for assistance to address the problem.

“Niadto ko kay Engr. Joey Felizarta, akong gipadayag didto. Ana man siya nga magletter lang ka para atoang buhatan og aksyon. Giadtuan dayon dinhi, gidalhan nila og backhoe ug naa puy support ang kadtong truck nga ilang gidala dinhi sa CEO,” Committee on Environment Chair, Councilman Deverlyn Santander, said.
