Potholes on the provincial road in Barangay San Vicente in Calasiao, Pangasinan have become a huge problem to both residents and motorists.

Aside from the potholes themselves, rainwater that has accumulated in the holes have also become a hazard.

"Lubak na masyado [at] lubog. Ang tagal na problema [ito] dito. ‘Yung mga pasahero – nahhiya rin ako – kapag dumadaan kami diyan [ay] umaalog [at] nauuntog sila," Motorist Jeffrey Aquino, a motorist, said.

Many accidents still occur in the area, according to some residents. They said people passing by often get splashed with mud.

"‘Yung mga dumadaan [ay] naaksidente kasi madulas. Ilang beses na natutumba ang mga naka-single," Rene, a resident, said.

The road is a primary route leading to the town center and Dagupan City.

The potholes stretch approximately two meters wide, taking up almost half a lane.

Barangay officials said they are also challenged by the potholes. They said it was caused by heavy vehicles passing through.

They said they could cover the potholes temporarily, but the barangay lacks the funds for proper repairs.

"Kapag hindi gagawin ang kalsada dapat aspaltuhin muna, mas matibay ang aspalto kaysa sa semento," Radito Joves, the Barangay Chairman, said.

The issue has also been reported to the Provincial Engineering Office.
