A small bridge situated at fish ponds in Barangay Lanas in Mangaldan, Pangasinan is finally set for rehabilitation.

For years, overflowing fishponds have caused floodwaters to submerge the bridge, especially during the rainy season.

“Magkakaroon diyan ng elevation and lalawak at lalapad ang kalsada pati ‘yung tulay lalo na makitid kasi diyan,” Jemina Lomibao, a barangay councilwoman, said.

Aside from the bridge, the road will also be widened and elevated, and a larger drainage canal will be constructed to help prevent flooding.

“Nakapahirap kasi talaga sa amin at saka hindi lang kami ang dumadaan diyan, pati mga taga ibang barangay,” Lomibao added.

Residents, especially parents, are relieved that the project is pushing through.

“Malaking tulong sa baha, kawawa kasi mga bata kapag baha na hindi na sila makadaan diyan,” Magdalena Perez, a resident, said.

The project is expected to be completed within four months.

With the hot weather expected to speed up construction, rasidents are hopeful the project will be finished ahead of schedule.
