Beginning July 1, 2025, the Local Government Unit of Cebu City will implement stringently its Anti-Plastic Policy.

In line with this, employees of the Cebu City Hall are urged to bring their own reusable tumbler.

The policy of the city is a step to avoid single-use plastic water bottles that have become ubiquitous.

The improper disposal of single-use plastic water bottles have added up to the clogging of creeks or waterways which contributes in the swelling of rivers or streams, and flooding eventually.

The proactive participation of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and various sectors, of the Climate Change Commission and Natural Resources Development Corporation, aims to pad further ill effects of plastic pollution and climate change, especially to vulnerable communities.

During the Climate Solutions Forum initiated by the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, Retired Judge Benjamin Turgano, president of the Natural Resources Development Corporation (NRDC), seeks to achieve within three months a shift to the use of more sustainable items or materials.

One of the mechanisms to achieve the goal is the launch of the National Coalition on Sustainability and Regeneration that enjoins volunteerism of various sectors, such as in the universities, local government units (LGUs), business people, private sector, and other stakeholders passionate about solutions to effects of climate change upon communities.
