President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has announced that the National Food Authority (NFA) will once again start buying corn from farmers directly.
Speaking to farmers in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, the President said he will restore the NFA's former role of purchasing both palay (unhusked rice) and corn.
He said it is a move aimed at supporting local farmers amid low farmgate prices.
The Department of Agriculture had earlier said they were studying the idea to help corn farmers.
Marcos assured that the buying price set by NFA will not depend on market prices, to make sure farmers earn enough.
As of June 30, 2025, NFA buys dry palay at P19 to P23 per kilo and wet palay at P18 per kilo.
The President also said the government is now better prepared to respond to disasters such as droughts and typhoons.
He led the distribution of 16 mobile soil laboratories to different regions.
These 10-wheeler trucks are equipped to analyze soil quality and help farmers improve crop yields.
