The first Special Education (SPED) and Early Intervention Center of the Iloilo City Government was inaugurated. The center is located in Barangay Taal, Molo District.

The center is set to provide specialized learning and developmental support for persons in the spectrum (Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD) and other developmental conditions.

Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas said that it is important to provide proper care and early training to children with development conditions and a safe space for them.

She said that the City Government has mulled on putting a similar center in its other districts.

According to Gab Umadhay, officer in charge of the center, SPED teachers will provide behavioral and academic interventions to children with special needs.

“Ang goal gid naton is makapungko ang kada bata sa sulod sang classroom kag ma-integrate sa Kindergarten kag hopefully sa Grade 1 very soon,” Umadhay said.

Free interventions will be provided and that the center would spare parents from looking for centers that focus on catering to children with special needs.
