The Naga City local government unit (LGU), along with various agencies and offices in the city, gathered to commemorate the 66th birth anniversary of the late Naga City mayor and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary, Jesse Robredo, on May 27, 2024.

A wreath and flowers were offered at the Jesse M. Robredo Museum.

The ceremony was followed by a Holy Mass and a program dedicated to the former mayor.

Present at the event was his brother, Butch Robredo, who was thankful for the continued remembrance of his brother's legacy.

“Kami kaito kang nawara si Jesse, pigmati mi ito. Kaya lang ngunyan na ako mi nang maray, pigrurumdom pa giraray siya. Nagpapasalamat kami sa gabos na nag-aasikaso kaini, gabos na nagdidigdi taon-taon para girumdumon ang saiyang kompleaño," he said.

PCOL. Erwin Rebellon, City Director of the Naga City Police Office, said Robredo is remembered because of his good governance in Naga.

“Si mayor kasi, nahilingan ta ning kahigosan. Naging famous siya dahil marayon si nagging palakaw niya kang yaun siya digdi sa Naga. Siguro iyo ito su pamarisan kan kada saro, bako lang ang PNP (Philippine National Police),” Rebellon said.

Robredo, the husband of former Vice President Leni Robredo, was mayor six times. He received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2000. 

He was DILG secretary when he died in a plane crash on August 18, 2012.
