Hotly anticipated as "Pulang Araw" was, the Kapuso period drama seems to have exceeded all expectations and then some after it made an enthralling Netflix debut that impressed many netizens.

Pulang Araw made its much-awaited debut on the global streaming platform on Friday evening, two days ahead of its airing on GMA Prime, and already received many words of commendation from its audiences.

"The pilot episode started off so heavily, showcasing one side of the war and how filipinos fought for our country through the emotional perspective of losing a friend," one netizen said on X (formerly Twitter).

Many netizens also couldn't help but notice the excellent cinematography and acting skills of the show's powerhouse ensemble.

"Cinematography. Story. Acting. Grabe. Ngayon pa lang, kudos na sa bumubuo ng Pulang Araw. At bakit ka naman nagpapaiyak nang malala?" said another X user.

Viewers also took notice of particular scenes that they thought were masterfully done, such as the playful bonding of young Eduardo and Adelina running around against a well-designed historical backdrop.

"Bilib ako sa pagkakagawa ng eksena na 'to. Ang pulido ng detalye. Ipinakita sa viewers ang ganda ng mga gusali at kalsada ng Pilipinas bago ang pananakop ng mga Hapon," remarked another netizen.

The impressive pilot episode featured Adelina (Barbie Forteza) while reading a letter sent by his brother Eduardo (Alden Richards) who, at that time, was in the middle a bloody conflict.

As war ravages their homeland and Japanese forces occupy the Philippines, the four childhood friends’ dreams, friendships, and loyalties are tested, leading them on a journey of self-discovery and resilience.

"Pulang Araw" is under the directorial helm of Dominic Zapata (My Husband's Lover, Temptation of Wife, Royal Blood), and is written by Suzette Doctolero (Encantadia, Amaya, My Husband's Lovera).
