Flowers are not the only way to say "I love you" on Valentine's Day. In Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, fresh vegetable bouquets are gaining attention as a unique and healthy gift option.

Instead of traditional roses, these bouquets feature local produce like chili peppers, eggplants, onions, garlic, bitter melon, and tomatoes.

Prices range from P400 to P500.

Veggie bouquet maker Sheila Marie Orpilla said the initiative helps support local farmers while promoting a sustainable way to celebrate love.

“Sa farm at sa kanilang locality... para hindi extravagant; para mapasaya ang kanilang mga minamahal... iba ang feel ng [mga] farmer... produce namin yan... boosting their moral...” Orpilla said.

The Department of Agriculture Region 2 supports the effort, seeing it as an opportunity to boost farmers’ income while encouraging people to choose fresh, local produce over imported flowers.
