From driftwood and bottle caps to bamboo chimes and plastic bottles — what was once trash is now art, thanks to the creativity of students from a university in Pangasinan.

Their beachside art installation called “Man-ërëlan ëd baybay” is now drawing attention at Lingayen Beach as part of the Pista’y Dayat festival celebration.

“Gumawa po kami ng isang art installation para sa Pista’y Dayat na kung saan isa itong Sining Baybay art installation na ang title niya ay ‘Man-ërëlan ëd baybay’ na ang ibig sabihin ay 'hulihan sa dagat',” Vanessa Milamor Baldueza, an instructor at the Polytechnic College of Pangasinan, said.

Made from recycled materials, the installation doesn’t just showcase artistic talent — it also calls for unity in addressing environmental issues, especially marine pollution.

“Kailangan po nating gumawa ng isang mahalagang impact. Isa na din ‘yung pagkakaroon ng awareness ng bawat isa,” Carjoseph De Guzman, one of the student-artists behind the project, said.

The project encourages the public to care for the environment, especially the seas, which are a source of livelihood for many coastal families.

The public can visit the installation at Lingayen Beach, where it stands not just as art — but as a reminder that beauty and purpose can rise from discarded things.
