Authorities have recovered the body of a fisherman who drowned in the waters off Barangay Dawan in Mati City, Davao Oriental over the Holy Week weekend.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the fisherman and his wife and daughter went to a fish cage. While there, their boat, which they forgot to secure, got swept away by the wind and strong current.
According to the fisherman's wife, her husband jumped into the water in an attempt to retrieve their boat but he reportedly struggled to return to the fish cage and drowned.
“CGS Davao Oriental Station Commander, CG Lieutenant Vincent Bryan Marcos, urges the public to always take precautionary measures and observe maritime safety guidelines at all times,” the PCG said.
