An alleged notorious snatcher was killed while his companion was wounded after the motorcycle they were riding on figured in a road mishap while they were fleeing reportedly from a victim of snatching at around 1 a.m. on April 8, 2024.

Alias “Ulyssis,” the 31-year-old motorcycle driver, and alias "Andy," 23 years old, the man riding pillion, are reportedly from Barangay San Isidro, District of Jaro in Iloilo City. 

Police Captain Val Cambel, chief of Mandurriao Police Station, said that a 23-year-old man was walking along Q. Abeto Street in Mandurriao district when “Andy” grabbed the man’s bag.

The victim was identified as a certain “Jincy,” a resident of Barangay Camalig in Jaro. 

The victim struggled to keep his bag but the suspects took hold of it and fled the scene. 

According to Cambel, the victim shouted for help which alarmed delivery riders and tricycle drivers who gave the motorcycle-riding tandem a chase. But the driver lost control of the motorcycle and succumbed to a fatal injury.

The driver was rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center but the attending physician declared the patient dead on arrival after he sustained a fatal wound on his head. 

The Mandurriao Police will also investigate on reports that the alleged notorious snatchers were mobbed by residents.  

The man who rode pillion with the motorcycle driver survived the accident and is set to face charges for theft and possession of deadly weapon.
