Two Philippine Navy pilots died after their training helicopter crashed near a public market in Cavite City morning on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

The Robinson R-22 helicopter was reportedly conducting a routine training flight from Sangley Point when the incident occurred.

According to Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesperson, the two pilots were rushed to the hospital. One pilot was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

“The PN Robinson R22 trainer helicopter conducted [an] emergency landing this morning in the vicinity of Cavite City Public Market,” Padilla said in a report by GMA Integrated News.

The Philippine Navy has announced that all similar aircraft are grounded temporarily while investigations into the incident are underway. 

The Philippine Navy said that all their aircraft undergo regular inspections and maintenance checks to ensure safety.

Investigation into the incident continues, as of this writing.
