The Province of Antique is placed under a state of calamity.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) approved Resolution No. 351-2024 on April 18, 2024 that declares Antique under a state of calamity because of the El Niño phenomenon and authorizes Governor Rhodora  Cadiao to utilize the Quick Response Fund (QRF).

The declaration is based on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) that showed in its reports of over P200 million damages to agriculture, fisheries, and livestock in the province in a meeting on April 15, 2024.

QRF shall be used to hasten the delivery of assistance, thereby reducing the effects of El Niño to people's welfare, livelihood, and economy.

According to Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, the P10 million fund from the QRF will initially assist  farmers affected severely by the drought.

The fund will be used to purchase water tanks, water pumps, seeds and other agricultural supplies, including relief goods.

Earlier, the Municipalities of Sibalom, Anini-y, Laua-an, and Tobias Fornier declared a state of calamity in their respective jurisdiction.

As of posting time, Antique is the first province in Western Visayas to declare a state of calamity because of the severe impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
