A 40-year-old councilman of Masbate City sustained injuries after he was shot in his compound in Barangay Espinosa.

According to the councilman’s family, the victim was in a hammock when two suspects arrived and shot him.

The victim was rushed to the hospital.

The two suspects were arrested shortly at a police checkpoint. A .38 caliber revolver, a magazine, a knife, and bullets were confiscated from them.

As of this writing, the suspects are under police custody as investigation into the case continues to determine the motive.

Richard Danao, the victim's father, believes that the shooting may have something to do with politics.

“Siguro, political related incident ito, kasi yung anak ko, siya ang nagprotesta yung tungkol sa mga flying registrants this coming election,” Danao said.
