A two-year-old boy died while his four-year-old sister was wounded after their father stabbed them in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro.

The boy died on the spot while the girl is recuperating in a hospital after sustaining wounds in the neck and body.

“Wala ko ka-move on sa akong anak nga lalaki makit-an nako nga patay na. Wala ko nagdahom ngano gipatay man niya og tuyo? Ana ko ayaw patya ang bata,” the victims’ mother said.

Police arrested the 30-year-old suspect and recovered from his possession the knife and scissors he used.

The suspect has apologized and claimed he was not in his right mind when he stabbed his children.

“Mangayo ko og pasaylo sa mga bata nako kay akong napasakitan ang akong mga anak,” he said.

Investigators are looking into jealousy as possible motive as the suspect reportedly became furious when his live-in partner, the children's mother, left him.

The mother confirmed that she and the suspect had a fight prior to the incident.

“Sige man mi og away, ambot ana niya kay storya nila naa ko lalaki kauban daw pero wala man koy lalaki kauban kay naa rako sulod sa balay,” the mother said.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) is set to endorse the case to the City Prosecutor’s Office, as of this writing.

“Karon paningkamutan sa Cagayan de Oro City Police Office nga ma-endorse ang maong kaso ngadto sa buhatan sa City Prosecutors Office,” COCPO Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Evan Viñas, said.

The suspect is now detained and will face parricide and frustrated parricide charges.
