The final moments of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Cagayan who perished in the severe flooding in Dubai were captured on video.

Anguish was palpable in Maricris Ancheta from Barangay Masical, Amulung, Cagayan as she shared what her daughter went through in the Dubai flood.

“Sabi ko naman sa kanya, huwag ka muna umuwi, mas safe ka diyan, [pero sabi niya], ‘hindi mama kasi walang makain dito,’ sabi niya,” Maricris said.

Among the three Filipinos who perished in the massive flood was her eldest daughter, Marjorie Ancheta, 30.

Maricris shared the last conversation she had with her daughter before the telecommunications signal was cut off.

On April 15, Marjorie sent a video showing her inside a vehicle as floodwaters rose gradually.

On April 16, Maricris received the news of her daughter's death, along with another Filipina, after their vehicle got trapped in the flood.

Marjorie worked as a teacher in Dubai for a year to support her three children in the Philippines.

"Masakit dahil may anak siya, may kambal pa [na] one year and seven months old. Ang pakiusap lang namin sana mapadali ang pag-uwi niya kasi marami na kaming naghihintay sa kanya," Maricris said.

"Sana mapabilis na maiuwi dito," Joey Ancheta, Marjorie's father, added.

The Ancheta family remains in touch with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to expedite the repatriation of Marjorie's remains.

OWWA previously said that they would assist the bereaved families of the three Filipinos who lost their lives in the Dubai flood, where a storm suddenly dumped rover a year's rainfall in just a day on April 16, 2024.
