The Luzon grid will be on yellow alert status from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024.

This is because the grid is facing a significant strain during peak hours in maintaining a stable power supply.

The total available capacity for power generation stands at 14,902 megawatts (MW). However, the peak demand for electricity was recorded at 13,823 MW.

Since 2023, four plants have experienced forced outages. Four more faced similar issues between January to March 2024.

In April 2024 alone, the number of plants facing forced outages has risen to 13, while one plant is operating at a reduced capacity.

These issues have rendered 1,443.3 MW of power unavailable for the grid.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin—essentially, the extra power available—falls short of what's needed to ensure the grid's stability during unexpected events.
