The mother of the 14-year-old student in Talisay City, Cebu earlier reported to be shot dead by an unidentified man, while she was answering her learning modules, disclosed of the perpetrator's identity.

Evelyn, the mother, said that the suspect is her 21-year-old son, the elder brother of 14-year-old Jacauelyn (pronounced Jacqueline). Evelyn said she learned this from Jacauelyn’s other siblings. She further learned that the story reported earlier was fabricated by her other children to protect supposedly their brother. 

Neighbors who are said to be close friends of the family in Barangay Cansojong reportedly witnessed falsely in favor of the suspect.

Evelyn said her son possessed a gun but it went off accidentally that hit Jacauelyn in the cheek.

The neighbors who fabricated the story were arrested and charged for obstruction of justice. One will also be charged for illegal possession of firearm and homicide being accessary to the crime. The two reasoned out that they were there to help the family.  

The suspect is still on the loose, as of posting time. He is set to face charges for homicide and illegal possession of firearm.

Further, it was learned that the suspect is out of jail on a probationary status for a case on illegal drugs trade.  

As of this writing, Police Lieutenant Colonel Epraem Paguyod, chief of the Talisay City Police Station, is waiting for the results of an autopsy done on the victim.

Evelyn called on her son to turn himself in to the police and face the consequence. 

Jacauelyn was a Grade 7 student who aspired to pursue a career in teaching.  

Department of Education Central Visayas Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez  has extended condolences to the family and directed the department for a turnover of assistance.

The Talisay City Police considered the case closed, stating the nature of the incident to be an “isolated case.”
